Langley City Seeks Public Input on Urban Forest Management Strategy

Date

Langley City, BC – Langley City is inviting residents, business owners, visitors, and the public to provide input on the draft Urban Forest Management Strategy (UFMS) as part of the second phase of public engagement.

This public input opportunity will be open from September 10 to October 8, 2024. Community members are encouraged to participate in an online survey to share their feedback. For those who prefer, paper copies of the survey will also be available at City Hall.

"Langley City is committed to preserving and enhancing our urban forest, which is vital for biodiversity, recreation, and the well-being of our community. Our Urban Forest Management Strategy will provide a clear vision and actionable steps to ensure that our urban forest thrives for generations to come," said Perry Browne, Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator for Langley City.

The Urban Forest Management Strategy is a long-term plan that aims to ensure the sustainable management of Langley City’s urban forest, enhance its environmental and social benefits, and meet the City's broader strategic goals, such as those outlined in the Official Community Plan. The strategy will have a lasting impact on residents, business owners, and visitors by improving biodiversity, recreational opportunities, and the overall well-being of the community.

The first phase of community engagement, completed earlier last year, gathered public input on key concerns and priorities regarding the City's urban forest. This feedback helped shape the draft strategy, which is now available for public review. The second round of engagement provides a chance to comment on the draft strategy itself and help refine it before it is finalized.

How to Participate:

  • Survey Dates: September 10 – October 8, 2024
  • Where: Online or pick up a paper survey at City Hall (20399 Douglas Crescent)

This is your chance to help shape the future of Langley City's urban forest. Your input is essential to ensure that the final strategy reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.
