Langley City Prepares For A Rainy Weekend

Date

Langley City, B.C—The City of Langley is taking proactive measures to prepare for the anticipated atmospheric river, ensuring the safety and resilience of our community.

City staff have been diligently working on leaf cleanup and assessing the integrity of our drainage systems. This week, efforts have focused on areas with high leaf accumulation using specialized equipment. Staff have also been cleaning and flushing catch basins in known problem areas and inspecting outfalls that lead into the Nicomekl and other local waterways.

Residents and property owners are encouraged to assist by clearing downspouts, trench drains, lawn basins, and catch basins of leaves and debris. This collaborative approach is vital for preventing drainage issues and protecting our waterways.

To further support residents in preparing for potential weather impacts, sandbags will be available for Langley City residents at the Operations Centre, located at 5713 198 Street, starting Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20.

In addition, city standby personnel will be on call over the weekend to address any emerging issues. For urgent matters, residents can contact Surrey Fire Dispatch at 604.543.6722.

If you observe any flooding in the City, please submit a Request For Service at rfs.LangleyCity.ca.

Thank you for your support as we work together to keep our community safe and resilient.
