Langley City and the Downtown Langley Business Association (DLBA) partner to bring a “spectacular” aerial display to McBurney Plaza

For Immediate Release
Langley City, B.C. – On the heels of last year’s highly successful summer aerial umbrella display in McBurney Plaza, Langley City was receptive to the DLBA bringing forward concepts for the 2022 display, in an effort to make it even more impactful than 2021.

This year’s display, scheduled to be completed by June 29 and on display until mid-September, promises to wow the crowds and create a unique experience in the heart of downtown Langley.

Teri James, Executive Director of the DLBA said she is genuinely excited to see the outcome. “The umbrella display that the City provided last year was absolutely wonderful and drew many people to the downtown, but we wanted to up the ante so to speak. Imagine our delight when the City was eager to partner with us to create an even more intriguing display.”

McBurney Plaza was revitalized in 2013 following a Council decision that it was an important public space that needed to be preserved. Councillor Rudy Storteboom, Langley City Liaison to the DLBA, commented that “McBurney Plaza is a well-used and beautiful public space in our community that can be enjoyed by everyone. An aerial display just adds to the enchantment, and we were happy to partner with the DLBA to bring this year’s display to fruition.”

This year McBurney Plaza will be the hot spot for six free, family events throughout July and August, so enhancing the appeal of the Plaza with an overhead aerial display is “icing on the cake”. Click here for event information.

“The willingness to partner and explore options by both the DLBA Board and Langley City Council was all the motivation the DLBA Board of Directors needed to move forward with this concept, “said DLBA Board Chair Carole Ward. “We are confident that this will pave the way for unique aerial displays in McBurney Plaza for years to come.”

Members of the public are invited to attend McBurney Plaza on July 4th at 10 am for a formal unveiling and treats from a local business.
