Stay Active, Stay Healthy, Stay Home!

Langley City's Recreation Department has put together a list of resources (videos and links) for the community to help you stay active, stay healthy, stay engaged, and stay connected while at home.

Active Aging

 

Langley City Fitness staff are missing you!  Some of your favorite instructors have put together workouts for you to do at home so you can keep your body moving and spirits high. If you are new to fitness or have been ill or injured please complete Par Q+ fitness assessment before you exercise.

If you answered NO to all of the questions in the Par Q+ fitness assessment, you are cleared for physical activity.

  • Delay becoming more active if: You have a temporary illness such as a cold or fever; it is best to wait until you feel better.
  • If you are pregnant - talk to your health care practitioner before becoming more physically active.
  • If your health changes talk to your doctor before continuing with any physical activity program.
  • You are encouraged to start slowly and build up gradually - 20 to 60 minutes of low to moderate intensity exercise, 3-5 days per week including aerobic and muscle strengthening exercise
  • As you progress, you should aim to accumulate 150 minutes or more of moderate intensity physical activity per week. 
  • We encourage you to complete this form at least once a year to ensure that you are prepared for physical activity, and please modify any of these online fitness classes to meet your own personal fitness levels, drink lots of water, have fun and stay safe!

If you answered YES to one or more of the questions in the Par Q+ fitness assessment about your medical condition you should seek further information before becoming more physically active please visit a medical professional and obtain clearance to exercise.

 

Instructor Led Fitness Videos

Gentle-Fit
A low impact class focusing on building endurance, strength, flexibility and coordination.  Participate in cardio and strength exercises using a chair for balance. Equipment recommended: chair, resistance band and light weights. Please Note:  all exercises can be modified to be done without the use of equipment

Chair Yoga 
Using a chair for balance or to do seated exercises, this class will take you through a variety of yoga poses to strengthen your core, improve your posture and increase your flexibility.  Equipment recommended:  chair, mat

Body Sculpt
A total body workout designed to build strength, add definition and increase your lean muscle mass.  Using a combination of bodyweight exercises, cardio intervals and toning equipment you will transform the shape of your body!  May include floor work; participants should be comfortable getting to and from the floor.  Equipment recommended:  dumbbells, resistance band, mat. Please Note:  all exercises can be modified to be done without the use of equipment.

Bootcamp
A challenging work-out using a variety of circuits to include every fitness component- cardio, strength, and endurance.  Bodyweight exercises combined with weights and resistance bands will have you sweating and smiling at the same time!  Equipment recommended:  dumbbells (one light set, one heavy set), resistance band, mat.

Cardio Combo
Cardio exercises combined with light strength and toning exercises. This class aims to get your heart-rate up to burn calories through fun cardio exercises and increase your muscle tone and flexibility by including body weight exercises and stretching exercises.  Class includes floor work; participants must be comfortable getting to and from the floor.  Equipment recommended: light weights, resistance band, step, mat.

Power Yoga
This dynamic, flowing practice combines strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.  Moving through a variety of Yoga poses at a faster pace than traditional Yoga, this practice will burn calories, increase muscle strength and endurance while also work on improving your flexibility and posture.  Recommended for those with previous Yoga experience.

Rest & Restore Yoga
Unwind and retrieve peace of mind!  Enjoy slow, passive stretching for extended periods of time combined with centered breathing to calm the mind and body. No yoga experience needed.  Participants must be comfortable with floor work.  Equipment recommended:  mat, blanket.

Fit For Life
This program is designed to increase your strength, endurance and balance through body weight and coordination exercises.  Light cardio is included to increase your stamina and help maintain your ability to continue with everyday life. This program is designed for beginners and is ideal for those dealing with Osteoporosis or other bone density issues.  Participants must be mobile and comfortable getting to and from the floor.  Recommended equipment:  light weights, mat.

Pilates
Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.  Balance exercises combined with prolonged stretching will help improve your Core strength, tone your body and improve flexibility.  Participants must be comfortable getting to and from the floor.  Recommended equipment:  mat.

Hatha Yoga- Beginners
This program will take you through the basic Yoga poses in a slow, methodical manner.  Hatha Yoga incorporates breathing exercises with basic yoga poses to improve your flexibility, posture and CORE strength.  Participants must be comfortable getting to and from the floor.  Recommended equipment: mat.
