Applications are invited for Casual Clerk Typist 3’s for various Departments at Langley City such as Engineering, Development Services and Corporate Services.  Casual assignments provide coverage for vacation, illness and other absences.  It is anticipated that most assignments will be during the period April through September with limited assignments during the remainder of the year.  Duties include providing customer service to the public, community organizations and internal stakeholders.

RATE OF PAY:             Pay Grade 12:  $26.90 to $27.95 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:    *Up to 35 hours per week    
                                    *Will vary according to need and length of assignment)    
                                    *Generally the hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

Applications are invited for Casual Shift Supervisors in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Shift Supervisors are responsible for the short term aquatic programming and operation of Al Anderson Memorial Pool. The Casual Shift Supervisor assignments start on April 27, 2020 and end on September 6, 2020. In – Service training preparation is April 27 to April 30, 2020 and In - Service training is May 4 to 7, 2020.  Applicants must be available on these dates. 

RATE OF PAY:             Shift Supervisor: $28.53 - $29.38 per hour (2019 C.U.P.E. rate)

HOURS OF WORK:    Up to 40 hours per week. 
                                    (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends) 

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation. 

A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, National Lifesaving Award, Basic Rescuer CPR, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, BCRPA Pool Operator I Certification and Lifesaving Instructor Award are required. Extensive experience in lifeguarding and instruction, a Lifesaving Examiner Award, National Lifesaving Instructor Award, Red Cross Instructor Training Certification, BCRPA Pool Operator Level II Certification, BCRPA Aquafit Instructor Certification (or equivalent), CPR Instructor Certification or equivalent combination of training and experience are desired. Applications are invited for a Regular Full-time Plan Checker/Inspector to work in the Development Services Department.  Under the direction of the Manager of Building and Licensing, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects to ensure structures comply with the B.C. Building Code and City bylaws and related statures and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.  The Plan Checker/Inspector is also responsible for assisting with the inspection of building projects during construction, alterations or repair to ensure compliance with approved plans, established by-laws, acts, codes, standards and regulations. 

RATE OF PAY:          Pay Grade 28:  $40.51 to $43.03  

HOURS OF WORK:   35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the British Columbia Building Code, City by-laws, policies and regulations, including Workers’ Compensation Legislation.  A Level 3 Building Official Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence are required.  Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired. Clerk Typist 3 is responsible for clerical and public relations duties. The work entails clerical tasks and liaison with instructors, user groups, community organizations and the general public. We have one seasonal assignment in addition to year-round casual assignments.  

RATE OF PAY:  Pay Grade 12: $26.90 - $27.95 (2019 rates)  

HOURS OF WORK:  Up to 35 hours per week (depending on assignments)

Applications are invited for Casual Lifeguard/Instructors to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Lifeguard/Instructors are responsible for promoting participation in aquatic activities, public relations, supervision of the public within the pool complex, assisting with special events, and preparing and completing plans, records, and forms at the beginning and end of instructional sessions.
The assignments begin May 1, 2020 and end September 6, 2020. In-Service training is May 1, and May 4 to 7, 2020 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Applicants must be available on these dates. Candidates who have been selected for interview will be required to attend a Wet Interview on Sunday, April 5, 2020. Those Candidates successful in the Wet Interview will be required to attend a Dry Interview scheduled between April 14 and 17, 2020.

RATE OF PAY:   Lifeguard/Instructor: $27.25 - $28.10 per hour (2019 rates)
HOURS OF WORK:       Up to 40 hours per week.

RATE OF PAY:               $29.08 per hour (2019 C.U.P.E rate)

HOURS OF WORK:     Temporary Full- Time hours are 40 hours per week 
                                     Casual hours are up to 40 hours per week
                                     (Primarily Monday to Friday, but some weekend shifts may be required)

Temporary Full-Time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of paid vacation and become eligible for benefits after 6 months of continuous employment.  Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of all benefits.   

The successful candidates will have Grade 12 plus experience in general construction and maintenance of parks and other landscape work.  B.C. Parks industry related training is desirable.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License is required.
