Applications are invited for Casual Clerk Typist 3 for various Departments at Langley City.  Casual assignments provide coverage for vacation, illness and other absences.  It is anticipated that most assignments will be during the period May through September with limited assignments during the remainder of the year.  The successful candidate will have flexible availability for varying assignments. This administrative role may be assigned secretarial, receptionist and clerical tasks.  Duties include providing customer service to the public, community organizations and internal stakeholders.

RATE OF PAY:              Pay Grade 12:  $26.37 to $27.40 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:      Up to 35 hours per week 
                                     (Will vary according to need and length of assignment)   
                                     (Generally the hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

The successful candidate will have completed grade 12 supplemented by business courses and several years of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Previous experience in local government is desired.  Familiarity with municipal services and software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tempest, Unit 4 (Agresso), eDocs DM Document Management Systems and Active Net are desired. R.C.M.P Secure Reliability Clearance or the willingness to obtain one is also desired. Details of the positions and the requirements can be found in the job description.

Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Senior Building Inspector to work in the Development Services and Economic Development Department, Building and Business Licensing Division.  Reporting to the Chief Building Inspector this position is responsible for the City’s building, plumbing, and business license inspection program.   This technical and regulatory position involves the inspection of structural, architectural, plumbing, civil, and safety installations in all types of new construction and alterations to existing structures, to ensure that the work complies with all existing codes and regulations.  This position assists the Chief Building Inspector by directing the activities of the division which includes scheduling, coaching, training, and process reviews and also assisting in the development review process for proposals being dealt with by Engineering, Planning and Fire Rescue staff. Opportunities to act as Chief Building Inspector will be provided. 
 
RATE OF PAY:              Pay Grade 29:  $41.03 to $43.63 per hour 
                                      Acting Chief Building Inspector rate:  $48.74 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:     35* hours per week (Monday to Friday)

*Overtime is available, with the option of payment at overtime rates or time off in lieu.

Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology or completion of Grade 12 supplemented by construction experience at the journeyman level in one of the building trades and a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Building Inspector/Plan Reviewer in a City/Municipality in the Province of B.C. with primary focus on Part 3 complex buildings and Level 1 Certification from the Plumbing Officials’ Association of B.C. are desired.  A current Level 3 Building Official Certificate from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Applications are invited for Casual Lifeguard/Instructors to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Lifeguard/Instructors are responsible for promoting participation in aquatic activities, public relations, supervision of the public within the pool complex, assisting with special events, and preparing and completing plans, records, and forms at the beginning and end of instructional sessions. 

The assignments start May 6, 2019 and end August 30, 2019.  In-Service training is May 6 to 9, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.   Applicants must be available on these dates.  Candidates who have been selected for interview will be required to attend a Wet Interview on Sunday, April 7, 2019.  Those Candidates successful in the Wet Interview will be required to attend a Dry Interview scheduled between April 10 and 12, 2019.

RATE OF PAY:              Lifeguard/Instructor: $27.25 - $28.10 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:     Up to 40 hours per week. 
                                      (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends)

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation.

A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, National Lifesaving Award, Basic Rescuer CPR, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, and Lifesaving Instructor Award are required. Previous experience at Al Anderson Memorial Pool and Aquafit Instructor Certification are desired. Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.
