Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Building Inspector to work in the Development Services and Economic Development Department, Building and Business Licensing Division. Under the direction of the Chief Building and License Inspector, this technical and regulatory position involves the inspection of structural, architectural, plumbing, landscaping, civil, and safety installations in all types of new construction and alterations to existing structures, to ensure that the work complies with all codes and regulations. Opportunities to act as Chief Building Inspector will be provided.
RATE OF PAY: Pay Grade 27: $38.44 to $41.03 per hour
Acting Chief Building Inspector rate: $48.74 per hour
HOURS OF WORK: 35* hours per week (Monday to Friday)
*Overtime is available, with the option of payment at overtime rates or time off in lieu.

Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology or completion of Grade 12 supplemented by construction experience at the journeyman level in one of the building trades and a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Building Inspector in a City/Municipality with primary focus on Part 3 complex buildings is desired.
A current Level 3 Building Official certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License are required. A University degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience in municipal engineering or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Applicants must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia or be eligible to be registered within one year. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
