Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Engineering Technologist to work in the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department.   Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Services, the successful applicant will provide technical support primarily in traffic engineering and secondly in development engineering and other related works as required.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include:
•    Performing technical engineering related to traffic and transportation;
•    Planning, conducting and preparing terms of references for traffic studies encompassing accident analysis, safety, parking;
•    Using software applications such as Synchro for modeling traffic flow, optimization of traffic signal timing, etc.;
•    Preparing and supervising the traffic count program;
•    Reviewing subdivision/development engineering design submissions;
•    Drafting preliminary development engineering requirements and servicing agreements;
•    Completing inspections on work performed ensuring compliance on development related construction projects;
•    Responding to public concerns related development projects; and,
•    Assisting in the preparation of technical reports, policies and procedures.

RATE OF PAY:            Pay Grade 29:  $43.54 to $46.30 (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:    35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The incumbent will have considerable knowledge of engineering principles and practices including transportation and traffic.  A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a field relevant to the position from a recognized institution and at least 5 years’ experience in municipal engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Experience in traffic and transportation programs, preparation and management of contract agreements and in traffic engineering software applications such as Synchro would be an advantage. Registration or eligibility to be registered with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Langley City has an attractive career position available for Project Manager in the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department, an opportunity to join a progressive and well-led organization.  Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Services, the Project Manager is responsible for delivering and managing all phases of capital projects that fulfill the city’s strategic goals and meet the long-term infrastructure plans for core services focusing on civil projects that cover road work, water, sanitary, drainage, and parks infrastructures and may supervise the day-to-day activities of applicable Engineering Services staff.  The Project Manager is also responsible for providing input to the annual capital budgeting process, drafting reports to Council, responding to public enquiries, delivering presentations, and conducting condition reports related to municipal infrastructures. The position will additionally be responsible for preparing Tender documents, RFP’s, RFQ’s, evaluating proposals and participating in the consultant selection process to engage consultants for studies and design work for capital works projects.  The incumbent will have considerable knowledge in public sector procurement, contract management experience, knowledge of Health and Safety and WSBC requirements and thorough knowledge of construction contract laws, MMCD and CCDC documents, bonding and surety, and bid depository rules and procedures.  

A P.Eng. designation, bachelor’s degree or diploma in related engineering technology, and three to five years current relevant work experience in a contract administrator and project manager role is desired. MMCD Contract Administration Certification, Construction Management degree or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification would be an asset.  Applicants must be registered or be eligible to be registered with the Engineers and Geoscientist of British Columbia as either a P. Eng., EIT, or Engineering Licensee, Eng. Langley City is experiencing great growth with exciting projects on the horizon including the arrival of the Skytrain and a new OCP. Future projects will involve various levels of complexity and design.

Under the direction of the Manager of Engineering Services, the Infrastructure Engineer has professional engineering and administrative responsibilities for Traffic and Transportation management of the City roads. The Infrastructure Engineer will play an integral role in the City’s effort to collaborate with the Province and TransLink to implement the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain (SLS) extension to downtown Langley City.

The successful candidate will have up-to-date technical knowledge and the ability to review design submissions (e.g., roads, water distribution system, sanitary & storm sewers, etc.) and ensure that they satisfy municipal requirements.  The position also requires maintaining City’s Synchro model, managing City’s capital projects (roads and underground utilities, etc.), preparing cost estimates, evaluating proposals, coordination and scheduling of consultants, quality reviews, tendering, and budget control.  Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including consultants, City staff and the general public is fundamental to the role.  The position requires strong customer service, communication, and project management skills.

A University degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 3 years’ related experience in municipal engineering or equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Applicants must be registered as a Professional Engineer or have a limited license in the Province of British Columbia or be eligible to be registered within one year.  A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. RATES OF PAY:    
Recreation Worker 1:  $18.03 – $19.45 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:   
Up to 40 hours per week (depending on assignments)

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation.

Applications are invited for Casual Lifeguard/Instructors to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Lifeguard/Instructors are responsible for promoting participation in aquatic activities, public relations, supervision of the public within the pool complex, assisting with special events, and preparing and completing plans, records, and forms at the beginning and end of instructional sessions. 

The assignments are expected to begin when hiring processes are complete and will end September 2, 2022.  Candidates who have been selected for interview will be required to attend a Wet Interview. Those Candidates successful in the Wet Interview will be required to attend a Dry Interview.

RATE OF PAY:                Lifeguard/Instructor: $28.36 - $29.23 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

RATE OF PAY:              Pay Grade 19: $32.48 to $34.17 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)
