This is an exciting opportunity to join our Clerical Casual Pool and to work in a variety of positions for the Engineering, Development Services and Finance Departments/ Divisions. Casual assignments provide coverage for staff absences, peak times and special projects.  Duties include providing customer service to the public, community organizations and internal stakeholders. Depending on the Department/Division examples of duties include: accounts payable, property tax collection, responding to request for service, answer phones, responding to emails, writing letters and reports, taking payments and general office administration. Successful candidates may be hired into all of the following classifications:

 Administrative Clerk – Tax and Utilities:    Pay Grade 16: $30.24 to $31.72 per hour (2021 rates)

 Accounts Payable Clerk                            Pay Grade 14: $29.08 to $30.24 per hour (2021 rates)

 Clerk Typist 3:                                           Pay Grade 12: $27.99 to $29.08 per hour (2021 rates)

Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of all benefits including statutory holidays and vacation. 

HOURS OF WORK:    Up to 35 hours per week
 Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Applicants must be available Monday to Friday.  Completion of grade 12 supplemented by business courses and several years of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired.  Additionally, experience in local government and familiarity with municipal services and software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tempest, Unit 4 (Agresso), and eDocs DM Document Management Systems are desired. Skytrain has been approved to be extended to the City within the very near future.

The City is seeking an experienced Building Official (I, II, or III) – Plan Reviewer/Inspector to join the Development Services team. This position reviews, processes and issues building permits applications and inspects building permits in accordance with the B.C. Building Code. The Building Official – Plan Reviewer/Inspector also provides technical information and assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, and other municipal staff on matters related to the work. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in the technical aspects of the work while unusual problems or policy matters are discussed with a superior.

RATE OF PAY:  Level I - $36.32 - $38.48 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates) 
                          Level II - $42.15 - $44.77 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)
                          Level III - $43.54 - $46.30 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, related bylaws, acts, standards, and regulations related to the building trade. Completion of a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by related courses, plus considerable related field and municipal experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and one of the following:

Level I – Registration as a Building Official and BOABC Level 1 Qualification.
Level II – Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 2 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.
Level III - Registration as a Building Official, BOABC Level 3 Qualification, and POABC Level 1 Qualification.

Langley City has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, over 346 acres of parkland, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities. 

The City is seeking two (2) Regular Full-Time Parks Workers to join the Parks Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. Parks Workers perform a variety of manual duties in the maintenance of floral areas, turf, sports fields, playgrounds and related areas and the maintenance and minor repairs of park buildings.

RATE OF PAY:  $30.25 per hour (2021 CUPE rates)
HOURS OF WORK:  40 hours per week

The successful candidates will have Grade 12 plus experience in general construction and maintenance of parks and landscape work and the stamina and coordination to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions.
