Sustainability is about ensuring a high quality of life for all citizens while learning how to live within our collective global capacity. Every person, business and organization has a role to play. The City of Langley is committed to taking a leadership role in this challenge and has identified sustainability as a key focus area in its Corporate Strategic Plan.

Sustainability Framework
The City has developed a Sustainability Framework to express the City's commitment to sustainable development, affirm the community's sustainability goals, and define a structure that aligns the City's policies, plans and actions towards a common direction. The Sustainability Framework will offer guidance to City Council, staff and community members.

Corporate Energy & Greenhouse Gas Emissions Plan
The City has adopted a plan to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in its corporate operations. The Corporate Energy & Greenhouse Gas Emissions Plan responds to the City's commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2012 under the B.C. Climate Action Charter.

The City has updated its corporate energy and greenhouse gas emissions inventories to measure progress from 2008-2010. The report confirms reductions in energy consumption and greenhouse emissions from the City's corporate operations over the study period while emphasizing the need to continue pursuing reduction initiatives in line with the Corporate Energy & GHG Emissions Plan.

Community Energy & Greenhouse Gas Emissions Plan
The City has adopted a plan to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the community. The Community Energy & Greenhouse Gas Emissions Plan identifies a target for reduced greenhouse gas emissions that has been incorporated into the Official Community Plan as required by Bill 27, the Local Government (Green Communities) Statutes Amendment Act.
