Competition #24-23, Firefighters, Regular Full-time

Langley City is recruiting for regular full-time Firefighters; an opportunity to join a progressive and innovative fire department.

Required documents that must be included:

  • Firefighter Application Form.
  • Class 3 or 1 full-privilege driver’s license with air brake endorsement Personal Driving Record/ Abstract (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date of this competition. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record/Abstract, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Photos of your driver’s license and/or a Driver Factor report will not be accepted. No more than 6 points and no current suspensions or prohibitions from driving. 
  • First Responder Level 3 or a valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board License in Emergency Medical (EMR) Responder or Paramedic Licence (BLS or ALS).
  • Firefighter Fitness Testing certificate that is valid within one year of this posting close date or be willing to complete and submit by no later than June 21, 2024.

Competition #24-24, Engineering Worker - Labourer (Boulevard Maintenance), Temporary Full-time

Langley City, a community of approximately 29,000, is positioned in a rapidly growing area strategically located in Metro Vancouver and has a vibrant community spirit and an inspiring vision of being “The Place To Be” now and in the future. Langley City has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, over 346 acres of parkland, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities. 

The City is seeking Temporary Full-Time Engineering Workers (up to 2) in the Engineering Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. This assignment begins in May 2024 and ends October 11, 2024; subject to operational requirements the assignment may be extended. The successful candidates will perform a variety of manual duties for boulevard maintenance including mowing and trimming grass and weeds, keeping the boulevard free of weeds, invasive plants, litter, loose materials including leaves or debris, and keeping the boulevards in a tidy condition.

RATE OF PAY:  $33.86 per hour (2024 CUPE rate) 

HOURS OF WORK:  40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Temporary Full-Time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of paid vacation and become eligible for benefits after 6 months of continuous employment.

The successful candidate will have Grade 12 plus experience in performing boulevard maintenance including skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment and the stamina and coordination to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Competition #24-25, Parks Worker (Litter Collection), Temporary Full-time

Do you enjoy working outdoors and are self-motivated? The City is looking for a temporary full-time Parks Worker in the Parks Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. This assignment starts in May 2024, and ends October 1, 2024; subject to operational requirements the assignment may be extended. This assignment will be focused on litter collection, operating a light duty vehicle on an assigned route and emptying litter containers, and may perform other Parks Worker duties as required.

RATE OF PAY:  $33.86 per hour (2024 CUPE rate)

HOURS OF WORK:  40 hours per week, Wednesday – Sunday*
                                   *schedule subject to change based on operational requirements

The successful candidate will have Grade 12 plus experience in general construction and maintenance of parks and landscape work and the stamina and coordination to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions. The City of Langley has an attractive career position available for Manager of Building and Licensing, an opportunity to join a progressive and well-led organization.

Reporting to the Director of Development Services and as valued member of the Department’s leadership team, the Manager of Building and Licensing oversees the Permit Services, Inspection Services, and Business Licensing functions including the enforcement of bylaws, coordination of work and activity with other departments and special projects as assigned. This role is responsible for the development, administration, implementation, and enforcement of policies and regulations related to the work. The Manager of Building and Licenses develops and maintains the standards of acceptance for development, construction and business operation, reviewing files and plans, conducting inspections, and ensuring resolution of complaints and issues from developer, contractors and the public regarding interpretation, application, and enforcement of codes, regulations, and bylaws as required.

Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building or engineering technology or a trade qualification in construction and considerable building administrative experience including supervisory experience in a unionized environment or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Competition #24-27, Building Official II or III - Plan Reviewer/Inspector, Regular Full-time

Skytrain has been approved to be extended to the City within the very near future.

The City is seeking an experienced Building Official II or III – Plan Reviewer/Inspector to join the Development Services team. This position reviews, processes and issues building permits applications and inspects building permits in accordance with the B.C. Building Code. The Building Official – Plan Reviewer/Inspector also provides technical information and assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, and other municipal staff on matters related to the work. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in the technical aspects of the work while unusual problems or policy matters are discussed with a superior.

RATE OF PAY:  Level II -  $54.44 per hour
                          Level III - $59.23 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, related bylaws, acts, standards, and regulations related to the building trade. Completion of a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by related courses, plus considerable related field and municipal experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. The City is seeking a Casual Building Maintenance Supervisor to join the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department. This is a supervisory janitorial and semi-skilled technical position that requires considerable independent judgment and action in supervising janitorial operations and in coordinating building and mechanical maintenance services at all buildings owned and operated by the City. The Building Maintenance Supervisor maintains and monitors computerized mechanical control systems, establishes and implements preventative maintenance programs, maintains computerized security access system, performs a variety of minor plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry maintenance and repairs, prepares operating budgets, and arranges and monitors contract services.

RATE OF PAY:  Pay Grade 24 - $41.72 - $44.35 per hour (2024 C.U.P.E. rates) 

HOURS OF WORK:  Up to 35 hours per week (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, and evenings).
