Applications are invited for two Regular Full-time Plan Checker/Inspectors to work in the Development Services Department.  Under the direction of the Manager of Building and Licensing, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects to ensure structures comply with the B.C. Building Code and City bylaws and related statures and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.  The Plan Checker/Inspector is also responsible for assisting with the inspection of building projects during construction, alterations or repair to ensure compliance with approved plans, established by-laws, acts, codes, standards and regulations.  

RATE OF PAY:            Pay Grade 28:  $40.51 to $43.03 (2019 C.U.P.E. Rates)   

HOURS OF WORK:   35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the British Columbia Building Code, City by-laws, policies and regulations, including Workers’ Compensation Legislation.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License along with Level 2 Building Official Certification from the Building Official’s Association of BC (BOABC) are required.  As condition of employment, the successful candidates will need to obtain their Level 3 Building Official Certification from BOABC by February 28, 2021. Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired. Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Arborist to work in the Parks Operations Division.  Under the direction of the Manager of Parks Operations, this supervisory position is responsible for manual work and exercising independence of judgment and action in all phases of tree maintenance as well as general Parks operations duties.   

RATE OF PAY:                 $34.68 per hour (2019 C.U.P.E. rate)

HOURS OF WORK:        40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The incumbent will have considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in arboriculture and of the hazards and proper safety precautions applicable to the work.  A Certificate of Qualification as a Field Arborist is desired. Registration as a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arborists or the ability to obtain registration and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License are required. Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Engineering Works Inspector to work in the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department.   Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Services, the successful applicant will be responsible for technical regulatory and inspectional work which includes preliminary surveying and data analysis, and inspecting the work performed by private contractors, developers, City crews and utility companies on development related construction projects to ensure adherence to specified standards, specifications, regulations, plans, bylaws, safety procedures and sound construction practices.  Considerable independent action, judgement and initiative are exercised in the work.

RATE OF PAY:        Pay Grade 28:  $41.51 to $43.03

HOURS OF WORK:        35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The incumbent will have knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the construction and installation of municipal services and facilities such as sewers, waterworks, roads, concrete structures and underground services, the practices and methods used in inspecting, regulating and coordinating construction and installation projects performed by contractors, basic engineering principles and practices, methods of inspecting, and the Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD) engineering construction project regulations and of safety procedures and WorkSafe regulations.

Graduation from a recognized Civil Engineering Technology certificate program, a minimum of five years’ experience in municipal engineering and work inspections, GIS and database application experience, Certification as a Public Works Inspector II, and certified as a Certified Technician (CTech) with the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired.  A valid Class 5 B.C.
